Are there Huskies that don’t shed?

No, there’s no Husky breed that doesn’t shed. All Huskies have a double coat of fur, which means they shed year-round and have heavy shedding periods twice a year. So if you are looking for a husky breed that doesn’t shed, you are out of luck!

However, there are ways to manage their shedding and reduce the amount of hair in your home. Regularly grooming your Husky, as well as brushing, and bathing can help remove loose fur and prevent matting.

Additionally, providing a healthy diet can improve the health of their coat and reduce shedding. It’s important to note that while some breeds may shed less than others, all dogs will shed to some degree.

14 Husky mixes that don’t shed (as much!)

While all Huskies are shedding dogs due to their thick double dense coat, there are some Husky mixed breeds that shed less than others.

You could also consider that these are hypoallergenic husky mixes because they will shed less compared to those where both the parent breeds have double coats with lots of hair. However, they are not truly hypoallergenic dogs.

Hypoallergenic traits will depend on which parent is the active breed. If the Husky parent is the more active breed, the mix will likely shed a little more compared to if the other breed parent is more active.

Important Note

While it is usually true that short-haired dogs shed a greater number of hairs than medium to long-haired dogs, their hairs are usually much smaller. Therefore the total volume of loose hairs is usually less.

And because the hairs are much smaller, they usually aren’t as noticeable on carpet and furniture. At least not compared to big fluffy chunks of Husky fur! Most Husky owners would probably agree… 😂

So if a Husky is mixed with a short-haired dog breed aka short haired husky, I’ve included it in the below list of Husky mixes that don’t shed as much.

Here are a few popular husky mixes to consider if you want a Husky with minimal shedding.

1. Belusky

The Belusky is a Belgian Malinois Husky Mix. Beluskies should shed less than Huskies because the Belgian Malinois parent breeds shorter hair.

2. Dalmatian Husky

This mix combines the spotted fur of a Dalmatian with the dense coat of a Husky. The shorter, single-coated fur of a Dalmatian helps to reduce shedding in this unique hybrid.

3. Siberian Pinscher

The Siberian Pinscher is a mix between the Doberman Pinscher and the Siberian Husky. The Doberman’s single-coated, short fur helps reduce shedding in this hybrid while still keeping its majestic look. Its small size makes it easier to manage than a pure Husky breed.

4. Pitsky

The Pitsky is a Pitbull Husky Mix. Pitskies should shed less than Huskies because of the Pitbull parent breeds relatively short hair.

5. Rottsky

The Rottsky is a Rottweiler Husky Mix. Rottskies should shed less than Huskies because of the Rottweiler parent breed’s relatively short hair.

6. Pugsky

The Pugsky aka Hug is a Pug Husky Mix. Pugskies should shed less than Huskies because of the Pug parent’s relatively short hair.

7. HuskyDoodle

The HuskyDoodle is a Husky Poodle Mix. HuskyDoodles should shed less than Huskies because of the Poodle parent’s well-known hypoallergenic traits.

8. Husky-Chi

The Husky-Chi is a Husky Chihuahua Mix. Husky-Chis when crossed with a short-haired Chihuahua, should shed less than huskies because of the Chihuahua parent breed’s relatively short hair.

9. Dusky

The Dusky is a Husky Dachshund Mix. Duskies when crossed with a smooth-coated Dachshund, should shed less than Huskies because of the Dachshund parent breed’s relatively short coat.

10. Boxsky

The Boxsky is a Boxer Husky Mix. Boxskies should shed less than Huskies because of the Boxer parent’ shorter and smoother hair.

11. Siberian Boston

The Siberian Boston is a Boston Terrier Husky Mix. Siberian Bostons should shed less than Huskies because the Boston Terrier’s coat is short with smooth hair.

12. Great Danesky

The Great Danesky is a Great Dane Husky Mix. Great Daneskies should shed less than Huskies because of the Great Dane parent’s short and smooth hair.

13. Bullsky Mastiff

The Bullsky Mastiff is a Bullmastiff Husky Mix. Bullsky Mastiffs should shed less than Huskies because of the Bullmastiff parent breed’s relatively short coat.

14. Sharberian Husky

The Sharberian Husky is a Shar-Pei Husky Mix. Sharberian Huskies shed less than Huskies because of the Shar-Pei parent breed’s short and smooth coat.

It’s important to note that regular grooming and frequent brushing are still necessary to keep shedding under control.

Remember that there is no such thing as a non shedding husky mix. But the above list of crossbreeds aka designer dogs will shed less than normal Siberian Huskies. They will also shed less than the below Husky mixed breed.

Husky Mixes That Do Shed

Below are Husky mixed breeds that are at least moderate shedders because the non-Husky parent is at least a moderate shedder. I’ve also included breeds in this list if the non-Husky parent’s fur is medium to long in length.

  • Bernese Husky (Husky x Bernese Mountain Dog)
  • Alusky (Husky x Alaskan Malamute Mix)
  • Beaski (Husky x Beagle)
  • Huskita (Akita x Husky)
  • Gerberian Shepsky (Husky x German Shepherd)
  • Husky Collie (Husky x Border Collie)
  • Ausky (Husky x Australian Cattle Dog Mix)
  • Chowsky (Husky x Chow Chow)
  • Horgi (Corgi x Husky)
  • Aussie Husky (Husky x Australian Shepherd)
  • Goberian (Golden Retriever Husky Mix)
  • Huskimo (American Eskimo x Husky)
  • Pomsky (Husky x Pomeranian)
  • Great Huskyenees (Great Pyrenees x Husky)
  • Siberian Cocker (Husky x Cocker Spaniel)
  • Labsky (Husky x Labrador Retriever)

Goberian (Golden Retriever Siberian Husky Mix)

Unfortunately, Goberians will likely be heavy shedders because both the Golden Retriever and Siberian Huskies are also heavy shedders.

Gerberian Shepskies (German Shepherd Husky Mix)

Shepskies will also be heavy shedders because both the German Shepherd and Siberian Husky parent breed are both heavy shedders.

Why do Huskies shed?

Husky shedding happens due to seasonal changes. They have specific shedding seasons where they lose their undercoat to prepare for warmer weather and colder weather. This process usually happens in the spring and fall.

In the spring, they shed to have lighter coats during the summer. Meanwhile, in the fall, they shed to leave space for the growth of a new undercoat that’ll keep them warm throughout the winter.

During this time, you may notice excessive hair falling off your Husky. It’s important to brush it regularly during this period. You can also give it regular baths to help loosen up the fur and make it easier to brush out.

It’s worth noting that not all Huskies will shed at the same rate or frequency. Factors such as diet, stress levels, and overall health can affect how much your Husky sheds.

Should I shave my husky to prevent shedding?

No, you shouldn’t. Shaving your Husky isn’t recommended and can even be damaging to its thick coat, which is essential to protect it from both cold and heat.

The top coat is made up of long, coarse guard hairs that repel both dirt and water, while the undercoat is fluffy and soft, which serves as insulation. Shaving a Husky’s coat removes this natural insulation and can lead to sunburn, skin irritation, and even hypothermia.

So what should you do instead?

Here are some tips for reducing shedding in your Husky:

  • Brush your Husky daily with a high-quality brush designed for double-coated breeds.
  • Use a de-shedding tool twice per week or more often during the shedding season.
  • Feed your Husky a high-quality diet that provides all the necessary nutrients for healthy skin and coat.
  • Bathe your Husky only when necessary to avoid over-drying its skin.
  • Consider supplementing its diet with fish-derived Omega-3 oil to prevent excess dryness in the coat.

If you follow the above tops, you should have a Husky with minimal shedding.

Final Thoughts: Husky or Husky Mix?

Huskies are beautiful dogs that shed naturally to regulate their body temperature. While there’s no way to stop shedding completely, there are ways to reduce it, including regular grooming or raising a Husky mix breed.

So, will you get a Husky and attempt to reduce their shedding?

Or will you get one of the Husky crossbreeds listed above?

Let us know in the comments below.

Is there a Husky that doesn’t shed much?

Yes, but only if the Husky is a crossbreed with a different dog breed with relatively low shedding traits.

Is there a Husky mix that is hypoallergenic?

The best Husky mix that is hypoallergenic is a Huskydoodle. Huskydooodles aka Huskypoos are a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Poodle.

Can you stop Huskies from shedding?

No, you cannot stop Huskies from shedding. However, you can help prevent their shedding through regular brushing, de-shedding, a high-quality diet, and the occasional bath.

Do all Husky mixes shed?

Yes, all Husky mixed breeds shed. However, some will shed significantly more than others. It depends on what breed the Husky is mixed with. If it’s mixed with a low-shedding dog breed, then it’s likely these traits will carry forward into the Husky mix.
