Appearance

Huskypoos are medium-sized dogs with a lean and athletic build. Their coat is often either long and shaggy, a perfect mix of the straight Husky hair and the curly Poodle hair, or more curly, just like the Poodle.

Coat & Shedding

While the Husky is notorious for being a heavy shedder, the standard Poodle has very minimal shedding and some consider it a hypoallergenic dog (more or less). If a Huskydoodle inherits more of the Husky coat, it may still have some shedding and will need frequent brushing with a slicker brush and comb.

While if the dog inherits the curly poodle coat, it will still need frequent brushing as well with a slicker brush or comb to prevent tangles and may also require professional haircuts at a grooming salon.

Huskydoodles are considered the best Husky mix that doesn’t shed, at least not as much as other Husky mixes.

Size

The average Poodle stands 18 to 24 inches tall from the shoulder and weighs between 40 and 70 pounds. The average Siberian Husky stands at between 20 and 23.5 inches and weighs between 35 and 60 pounds.

A Huskydoodle usually ends up weighing anywhere from 35 to 65 pounds and standing at 19 to 23 inches.

Temperament & Personality

Huskydoodles are the best of both worlds – they get the adorable, friendly personality of a Poodle and the playful, mischievous spirit of a Husky. They love being around people and always want to be right by your side. Some can be a bit stranger shy, but they quickly warm up.

Lifespan

The average Poodle’s life expectancy can be anywhere from 10 to 18 years. The average Husky’s life expectancy is 12 to 14 years. A Huskydoodle’s life expectancy will fall within those ranges and will be somewhere between 10 and 16 years. However, factors such as size, genetics, and health conditions can, of course, also play a part.

Intelligence

The intelligence and stubbornness of the Siberian Husky can sometimes be a bit of a double edged sword. They are often incredibly good at things like agility, obedience, dock diving, and retrieving. However, they can also be quite stubborn, which can lead to some issues in training. With the right approach, though, they can be taught just about anything!

Activity Level

Huskydoodles are active dogs that love to keep busy. They’ll settle down on the couch eventually for a snooze, but they’ll play hard beforehand! Because these dogs are both so active and energetic, if they don’t have an outlet to let that energy out, they can become somewhat destructive.

Because of this, lots of exercise and fun activities are a must for this breed! Standard poodles definitely have a special affinity for water, so this breed may love going to the beach or lake and going for a swim! They also often perform really well with hunting and retrieving as well as dock diving!

Are Husky Poodle Mixes Good With Kids?

Huskydoodles tend to be wonderful with children. They are patient and don’t get scared easily by loud and rowdy kids. Though, like any dog, they may not appreciate being grabbed or their tail being pulled, so it’s important to teach children boundaries and respect with dogs. And it is still best to always supervise dogs when around young children.

Speed, Strength & Endurance

It is no question that Huskies are fast and that they also have the strength needed to pull sleds and, of course, the stamina to travel long distances. The standard Poodle is also an athlete who can run both at high speeds in short increments and at moderate speeds for long distances. Many people make the standard Poodle their running or jogging partner or even hiking partner!

Behavior

The Huskydoodle is a happy-go-lucky dog that loves to play. They have a lot of energy and can sometimes engage in bad behaviors when they are bored. For example, they may chew on their toys or dig through the trash. Luckily, they are intelligent dogs and can easily absorb good behavior training. So long as they are kept active every day, they are less likely to develop bad habits.

History & Origin of the Husky Poodle Mix

History of the Husky

The Siberian Husky has a long and interesting history, dating back more than 4,000 years ago. These dogs we recognize today as Siberian Huskies are believed to have originated with the Chukchi people in northern Siberia. The Huskies were more than just companions for the Chukchi people – they would pull sleds full of food and equipment, and even snuggle up and keep the families warm at night!

In the early 1900s, the Siberian Husky made its way to Alaska, where it continued to grow in popularity. Eventually, the Siberian Husky would make its way into the hearts of people all across the United States. The Siberian Husky is a popular dog breed today for many reasons – they are incredibly friendly, intelligent, and athletic dogs that make great pets.

History of the Poodle

The Poodle got its start in Germany some 400 years ago. That’s right-they are not from France! While the French do love their poodles and even made it the national dog of France, the Poodle is actually German! The name comes from the German word ‘Pudelin,’ which is a word to describe splashing in water.

They were bred to be hunter’s helpers and excelled at retrieving ducks from the water. In fact, the fancy haircut they are so well-known for actually served a purpose besides just looks! Hunters wanted the dog to be able to swim uninhibited by a heavy coat but still protect the core areas of their bodies from the cold. From there, the Poodle cut was born!

Breeding the Husky Poodle Mix

The Huskydoodle is one of the more common Husky designer breed mixes today. It has only been in the past 20 to 30 years that the standard Poodle and Siberian Husky have been bred together purposefully, so the mix is still relatively new.

Today, the Huskypoodle can be found both through a breeder who is passionate about both breeds, as well as through oopsie litters that occur when two unneutered and unspayed dogs meet. Unfortunately, these pups sometimes do end up in shelters or in the care of rescues, so be sure to check there as well if you are interested in a Huskypoo!

How To Take Care Of A Husky Poodle Mix

Nutrition

It’s important to provide your Huskydoodle with a nutritious diet that is high in quality. Protein is especially important for dogs as active as the Huskydoodle, so make sure to include plenty in their diet. On average, they eat around 2 to 3.5 cups of food per day, but this may vary depending on the dog’s weight, health, age, and activity level.

Exercise

If you’re looking for a dog that is always up for some exercise, a Huskydoodle is the perfect pet! These dogs have nearly unlimited amounts of energy, especially from their Husky side. While they will love a leisurely walk around the block, they will also need something a little bit more intensive to really get their blood flowing. Even just throwing a ball around in the backyard so the dog can get some sprints in will be enough to help get some of that excess energy out.

A typical recommendation is for a Huskydoodle to get at least an hour of exercise every day, if not more. If that’s not attainable, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a full hour in one stretch. Instead, breaking it up into two half-hour sessions will be good as well.

Grooming

Huskydoodles, while they may or may not shed, will still require a significant amount of grooming. If they inherit more of the curly poodle coat, they will need to be thoroughly brushed every single day to keep tangles and mats from forming.

To keep their hair more manageable, they may also need a professional haircut at a grooming salon. Huskydoodles will also need the standard grooming care that every dog needs, like brushing, regular ear cleaning, frequent teeth brushing, and regular nail trims.

Training

Huskydoodles are eager to please most of the time, thanks to their sweet standard Poodle nature. However, they can sometimes act quite stubborn, thanks to their Husky background. Despite this, Huskydoodles can be used for tracking, police and military work, and therapy work. It is best to start training early for puppies.

But do remember to keep it fun, no matter the age, and train in short increments. Puppies undoubtedly will lose interest and start getting distracted if training is longer than 10 minutes at a time, but older dogs can focus for longer.

If your dog isn’t focusing or paying attention, end the training session on a positive and fun note, and try again after a little while. But usually, if you have a treat in your hand, a Huskydoodle will be more than happy to learn some new tricks!

Huskydoodle Puppies

The puppy stage is just one of the very many amazing aspects of being a new dog parent. But because these dogs are fun, energetic, and curious, they can often find themselves getting into trouble. Try your best to stick to a routine for potty training and sleep time. Also, try to incorporate lots of play sessions in between nap times!

General Health

Huskydoodles, overall, are considered to be quite healthy dogs. Unfortunately they are at an increased risk for developing certain health concerns from their standard Poodle heritage, like Addison’s disease, cancer, gastric torsion, and allergies.

A few health problems that Huskydoodles may be more prone to because of their Husky heritage include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, bloat, retinal atrophy, and hypothyroidism. A good, nutritious diet and regular veterinarian check-ups will help ensure that these pups remain in good health.

Husky Poodle Mix Price

The price for a Huskydoodle puppy from a breeder usually lands somewhere between 800 to 1,300 dollars. Always look for a reputable breeder that ensures the dog’s health with testing.

Since these mixes are sometimes the result of an accidental litter, they can sometimes be found in shelters or rescues. Depending on the shelter or rescue, the price could be as low as 200 dollars for a senior dog to as high as 600 dollars for a puppy. The higher price for puppies helps to discourage people from impulsively adopting a puppy they aren’t prepared for.

  1. Thanks for the comment Anne! I’m glad your liked the article. 🥰 Do you mean breed of the Huskypoo? If so, all I can say is it’s definitely a Huskypoo! In order to find a similar Huskypoo, you would need to track down the breeders. You could start by contacting the owner of this particular Husky poo >> https://www.instagram.com/lexithehuskydoodle/. However, every pup is different so there is no telling whether it will take after the husky or poodle parent side more. i.e. there are no guarantees about the size and looks of each pup. I hope that helps! 🤞
